This activity is designed to help people explore year-round food availability. You can conduct this activity individually, in small groups, or as a large group. Have the participants list 4-6 foods from each food group. Then ask them to think about when these foods are generally harvested. Place a checkmark in each of the times of the year which apply. When the group has completed this stage, go back to see if there are any gaps in the year where certain food groups are missing. Have the participants try to come up with additional food choices which may be planted to make up for these shortages. In the end, the group members should be able to demonstrate that year-round food availability is possible through the growing and eating of diverse food choices.
